Masterpiece Arms Adds MPA5700SST Defender Carbine To Its 5.7 x 28 mm Line.

The folks at Masterpiece Arms have been reaping the rewards that flow from entrepreneurship and innovation. Its Defender series of firearms is a classical example of what can be achieved when you offer a quality product at reasonable prices. Masterpiece Arms has demonstrated that it is possible to dispense with the fluff yet have a superior firearm; one example of that is their MPA57sst 5.7x28mm pistol. Shortly after its introduction, the MPA57sst took the market by storm. Such was its success that the company has now added the complementary MPA5700SST Defender carbine chambered in 5.7 x 28mm.

The 5.7 x 28mm has been a somewhat controversial round since first introduced by FN Herstal for their FN Five-seveN® and P90 weapon systems. SS190, as designated by FN, became know as the “cop-killer” bullet, in Washington circles, due to its alleged ability to penetrate Level II & III body armor. FN’s initial offering addressed the need for a PDW that could easily be carried by pilots, flight crews or mounted soldiers. The 5.7 x 28 mm remains an extremely practical approach to a requirement for a high velocity, low recoil, limited range round that can be loaded in large capacity magazines. As it turns out, it is quiet an effective flat shooting varmint round for ranges up to 200 meters.

What kind of accuracy does this carbine have @ 50, 100, 150, and 200 meters? I can’t find any information on this even from the manufacture.

    • Jerry, thanks for your post. I’m going to see if the manufacturer will chime in to help us answer that question. My personal experience revolves around to specific platforms, the FN Five Seven pistol an the FN P90 submachine gun. The 5.7 x 28 was designed as a PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) round. The SS190 round can defeat Level IIIA and Level III multistrike armor. If I were working a security detail, I would go with the FN P90 over the HK MP5 because of its velocity and penetration. Its effective range is about 200 meters. The FN Five Seven pistol makes a great companion for the FN P90 eliminating the need to carry two types of ammunition. Having said that and recognizing that accuracy depends a several variables, you can reasonably expect 1 minute of angle accuracy from the pistol and about 2 minutes of angle from the FN P90. The PA5700SST Defender carbine will probably be in that ballpark.
