Starting in 1996 Armor Holdings began its 11 year acquisition binge of a number of companies in the law enforcement and commercial space, which included the highly recognized Safariland™. In July 2007, BAE Systems acquired Armor Holdings forming the BAE Systems Products Group. The Stamford Advocate reported yesterday that Warren Kanders, owner and president of Kanders and Co. in Stamford, has purchased Safariland from BAE Systems Inc. through an affiliate for nearly $124 million.
Mr. Kanders is not a stranger to Safariland; in 1996, he invested in American Body Armor, and built both companies over the next 10 years through a series of well executed acquisitions.
