DARPA Is Looking For A Multiband Camera System For Dismounted Soldiers

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) would like to see proposals for advanced helmet-mounted and clip-on camera systems, as part of its pixel network for dynamic visualization (PIXNET) program.

The objective is to fuse all sensors, visible, near infrared and infrared images, into a single display. The design objectives include, ease of use, compactness, multi-function, light weight, low power consumption, low cost and networkable. Referring to its objectives as ambitious qualifies as an understatement. However, a successful implementation would add considerably to warfighter capabilities.
