I had the opportunity to check out the, new, USMC’s service pistol, the COLT USMC 1911, at SHOT Show 2013. What a dream gun folks! Colt has done a great job with this pistol: seven round magazine, cerakote finish, 5”match grade barrel, ambidextrous thumb safety, milspec Picatinny rail, Novak tritium 3-dot sights. Typical of COLT 1911’s, you have a smooth front strap and a small relief is machined into the frame behind the trigger guard, which makes for a very comfortable grip. The slide has beefy serrations front and back, so you get a very nice gripping surface. Colt is making small quantities of these available to the public at $1999. At this price point, Colt has a lot of very capable competition but owning the new U.S.M.C. service pistol might very well be worth the price of admission.
