The Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus, has approved a new ribbon for Marines who complete a 3-year assignment as instructors at the School of Infantry West or East. The USMC will introduce it in its next MARADMIN. Several Marines will receive the new ribbon as it “may be awarded retroactively to all Marines with qualifying service beginning on or after Oct. 9, 2002,” a Marine release stated.

It is our understanding, here at TwoBirds Flying Publications, that the Commandant will be doing away with written citations. Instead a letter with a picture will accompany its new ribbon.
