Since the Tavor SAR began shipping in March 2013, this superb carbine has steadily gained in popularity for good reason. Its bullpup design reduces the weapon’s overall length while preserving the longer 16 inch barrel so muzzle velocity and accuracy are not sacrificed. Another feature of the SAR is that most of its weight is close to the shooter’s shoulder, which provides superior stability and greatly increases muzzle control.
The TAVOR® SAR Flattop incorporates a full-length MIL-STD Picatinny top rail in addition to the standard short rail mounted at a 45° angle opposite the charging handle. The commercial version is semiautomatic with a long stroke gas piston operating system. The SAR is chambered in 5.56 NATO and feeds from a standard 30 round NATO magazine. Overall length is 26-1/8 inches with a 16-1/2 inch barrel. The barrel is cold hammer forged and chrome lined with a 1:7 twist. IWI included a folding front sight, with tritium insert, and a rear sight aperture. Both front and rear sights fold into the full-length Picatinny rail. All operating controls are fully ambidextrous. The IWI Tavor SAR is available in Black, FDE and OD M.S.R.P. $1,999.
Presently, IWI offers an optional 9mm conversion kit at an M.S.R.P. of $899
