One of my highlights while at Shot Show 2017, in Las Vegas, was the opportunity to interact with Austin Lockey and Mike Keegan from Machine Gun Armory. MGA is one of the small American veteran owned company’s doing some very impressive things for the Defense Industry. If I were in the venture capital business, I would be all over these guys because they are doing some very interesting development.
In 2016, MGA launched the MGA SAW-K, a compact, lightweight, versatile and ergonomic interpretation of the legacy M249 platform. I had the opportunity to fire the weapon in its 300 Blackout chambering and was extremely impressed by how light felt recoil was and how controllable the SAW-K was. Equally important to me was the folding buttstock which makes the SAW-K jumpable and gives the weapon a completely different silhouette. Maintaining parts compatibility and the same manual of arms as the M249 are fully incorporated in the company’s design criteria.
