MILIPOL 2017, Paris, France, Beretta Defense Technologies (BDT) announced its new 9×19 submachine-gun, the PMX. It’s unclear as of this writing if the PMX will replace the company’s M12. The PMX was built using polymers, which allowed a weight reduction of 1.1kg to 2.4 kg, compared with the 3.5 kg of the M12.
The design features a full length Picatinny rail at the 12 o’clock with three shorter rail at the 6, 3 and 9 o’clock positions at the forend. The PMX feeds from a 30 round magazine and features a folding stock, which when folded reduces the gun’s overall length from 640mm to 418mm.
The PMX’s operating system is a blow-back design with a cyclic rate of approximately 900 rounds per minute. It is selective fire SMG with three selector position: safe, semi-automatic and fully automatic.
BDT expects its first major order to come from the Italian Carabinieri some time in 2018.
