The Russian Defense Ministry Adopted a New Generation of Assault rifles, The AK-12 and AK-15

Russia’s Defense Ministry made its decision after completing what the organization described as rigorous testing in 2017. The new assault rifles are part of the Russian army’s “future combat system,” the Ratnik (warrior), which also includes a range of ISR capabilities.

The AK-12 and the AK-15 are modernized Kalashnikova variants chambered in 5.45×39 and 7.62×39 respectively, designed, built and supplied by Russia’s Kalashnikov Group. Enhancements include collapsible buttstock, full length receiver cover top rail, polymer forend with short rails at the 12 o’clock,  9 o’clock and 3 o’clock positions, improved pistol grip with storage space and the adjustable dioptric sights are optimized for 800 meters.
