Creedmoor Sports Continued Classification as a Sporting Goods Retailer
Regarding what you may be seeing/hearing in the news about changes to Merchant Category Codes (MCC) as they relate to firearms retailers, in summary, your business with us has not been affected. Your transactions continue to fall under the Sporting Goods Retailer category.
Over the last several weeks there has been a lot of media attention on the subject of Merchant Category Codes (MCC) and the tracking of firearms purchases by the credit card processing companies. Because of this media coverage and subsequent confusion on the subject, we wanted to reach out to you and give you a little more information and let you know how this impacts your business with Creedmoor Sports. In September, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) announced that they would publish a new MCC within their current listing for Firearms Retailers. The ISO publishes the list of MCCs that are used by the credit card processors to classify all businesses that utilize credit cards for transactions. This classification is then part of the data maintained for the credit card transactions. Based on this, we contacted our processing company to verify that our MCC has not changed. This was confirmed and Creedmoor Sports is classified as a Sporting Goods Retailer, just as we have been for many years. We hope this information is helpful and allows you shop with Creedmoor Sports with a better understanding of how your transactions are classified.
